all modern giveaway: pillow talk!

by Mojito Maven on June 29, 2009

Side note: Chapter 10 of Somewhere In Between Us has been posted! Happy reading.

I am really excited about this giveaway! If you have been reading my blog for some time you know I have a deep love for home décor. One of my favorite ways to dress up a room or change the look of a space is by adding throw pillows in various shapes, sizes, textures, and colors.

Imagine how excited I was when the wonderful people with AllModern.com asked me to host a giveaway featuring one of their products.

All Modern has a fantastic selection of modern furniture, home accessories and lighting from brands like Emeco, Vitra, Heller, Knoll, Blu Dot and more.

All Modern is graciously giving away one of their natural fiber throw pillows. I picked my favorite pillow for the giveaway. I plan on ordering several for my living room couch.

I adore the pattern and colors of this pillow.

Want to win this pillow? All you have to do is leave me a comment on this post.

Giveaway ends Thursday, July 2nd at midnight. The winner will be announced Friday, July 3rd!

bathroom etiquette, part 2

by Mojito Maven on June 24, 2009

While washing out my Tupperware container in the ladies room, I thought I heard a woman talking to herself in one of the stalls. Well it turns out she was actually talking on her cell phone.

Side note: Why do people find it appropriate to talk on a cell phone while using the restroom? Can someone explain this to me?

I tried to ignore her, but her voice was incredibly distracting because it was echoing off the walls.

All of a sudden I hear a loud plop followed by, “Holy f*&^. Gina, are you still there?”

Next I hear the splashing of water followed by the toilet flushing.

She then walks out of the stall with her sleeve soaking wet and water droplets dripping from her phone. I just stood there staring at her. She then walks over to the sink, washes her hands, and leaves without even acknowledging her mishap.

Can we talk about this?

SHE DROPPED IT IN THE TOILET AND FISHED IT OUT WITH HER HANDS BEFORE SHE FLUSHED IT?!?!

Ummm I’m going to Costco and stocking up on hand sanitizer.

random tuesday musings

by Mojito Maven on June 23, 2009

1. Can someone please explain to me why, at almost 26 years old, do I STILL have hormonal acne?

2. I am slightly irritated at J. Crew right now. I am over the fact that every day I receive an email about free shipping when I spend $175 or more. Why, just once, can’t J. Crew just offer free shipping with no limit? Seriously, it actually deters me from buying.

3. I am in desperate need for CT this week.

4. It slightly disturbs me that I have become one of those people. The servers at my local Starbucks know me by name and my order because I spend so much time there writing and reading. Hmmmm…

5. I recently went to Jamba Juice and was disappointed to discover that their menu has completely changed minus a few of their signature items.

6. I tried shopping in Forever 21 after my dear friend, Slynnro, did a post about the store, and I still could not find a single item to buy. That store seriously makes me have an anxiety attack.

7. Things are getting better on the home front, though it will be a long process until everything is resolved. Thanks for the kind thoughts!!

8. I have not stepped foot in Restoration Hardware in MONTHS! This is a record people. Mind you, I will soon be going back to my second home to order drapes, new dressers, and nightstands for our bedroom. Oh well…

don’t mess with me and cheese!

by Mojito Maven on June 22, 2009

Side note: Chapter 9 of Somewhere In Between Us is posted!

Dear Gentleman behind the cash register at Café Express,

I love cheese and all its fatty, caloric goodness. As a result, macaroni and cheese is my all time favorite comfort food. I will order it any chance I get. Imagine how thrilled I was when I noticed Café Express had macaroni and cheese on its children’s menu. And for only $4.29, how could I resist?

So, can you please explain to me why I was NOT ALLOWED to order it? Yes, I realize I no longer qualify for the children’s menu, but I was even willing to buy two orders which would equate to the same amount of food as an adult order. And what bearing does my order have on your life? So what if I am not of the correct age to order off the children’s menu. Either way you are still getting your bi-monthly paycheck so I fail to see the issue. AND, how did you know that I was not ordering it for a child? Why did you assume it was for me? Plus, last time I checked, money is good anywhere.

Instead I had to order a completely unsatisfying Cobb salad, per your ‘suggestion’.

Next time I will kick your ass. No one stands in the way of me and cheese.

Kind regards,

MM

losing family

by Mojito Maven on June 18, 2009

Recently, I have found myself thinking about this quote from Finding Forrester:

“Losing family obliges us to find our family. Not always the family that is our blood but the family that can become our blood. Should we have the wisdom to open our door to this new family we will find that the wishes we had for the father, who once guided us, for the brother, who once inspired us…”

For most, family brings a sense of comfort, joy, and love. But for others, family can mean resentment, bitterness, and hurt.

No family is perfect. Each has its own challenges and secrets. But above all the pain and sadness I do believe in forgiveness and healing.

I believe it in my heart of hearts, and right now, it is the only thing I know to be true.

which would you rather…

by Mojito Maven on June 17, 2009

Because both my personal and professional life are kicking my butt right now, I thought it could be fun to play a game to brighten the mood around here.

Which would you rather… (my answers are in italics)

1. Would you rather someone hit your thumb with a hammer or shoot you in the big toe with a nail gun? Thumb with a hammer.

2. Would you rather break dance or disco? Break dance.

3. Would you rather save George Clooney or Brad Pitt from a burning building? George Clooney.

4. Would you rather have permanent orange lips or purple hair (including leg hair, etc)? Purple hair because you could always dye it.

5. Would you rather eat curdled milk or molded bread? Molded bread.

6. Would you rather have bad sex daily or good sex once every other year? Good sex every other year.

7. Would you rather eat Spam everyday for a year or be 100 pounds overweight? Spam for a year (heck, I can make anything taste good if I try hard enough).

8. Would you rather spend an eternity in whatever you judge to be hell so that your most loved in the world would go to heaven, or go to heaven, knowing that your loved will burn in hell for eternity? I would choose going to my version of hell.

Leave me a comment with your answers!! You can answer all of them or just one. Also, I always think it is fun to add your reasons so do not be shy!!

Let the games begin.

beanie babies

by Mojito Maven on June 11, 2009

I talked with my mom this morning, and apparently she is sick of my childhood collection of Beanie Babies cluttering her basement. As a result, she wants me to take them all back to Dallas when I go home this summer.

I have over 200 Beanie Babies. Yes, I was one of those people. But, in my defense, I was in my early pre-teen years when they came out so that makes it acceptable, right?

beanie-babies

Sadly, I am not ashamed. Heck, at the height of the Beanie Baby movement I was the proud owner of a stupid mouse (his name is Trap and he is one of the 5 original Beanie Babies) that would sell for over $10,000 on eBay. Now it sells for a measly $89 on eBay. I still have him and am kicking myself for never selling it.

trap_the_mouse

Where in the heck am I going to put a box of 200 Beanie Babies in my town home? Our house does not exactly have a plethora of storage. And, it is not like I could sell them because who would want them? EVERYONE has them!

I knew I should have cashed out when I had the chance. Dang it.

Awesome.
