a little of this…

by Mojito Maven on July 30, 2009

Side note: Do not forget to enter my blogging anniversary giveaway! You have until tomorrow at midnight.

1. I just bought the new Daughtry CD and I love it. Stop judging.

2. I have been to PETCO no less than six times in three days. Apparently I am an idiot who cannot seem to get everything one would need for a puppy the FIRST time. This does not bode well for the future.

3. On that note, I never thought I would become one of those puppy moms. I do not even have the dog yet and Oliver is already spoiled rotten. Once again, the future is looking bleak.

4. Mr. Mojito found a yellow jacket nest in our backyard. A few observations…First, yellow jackets are NOT to be messed with. Those suckers are HUGE. Two, I am allergic to yellow jackets so those suckers need to exit ASAP. And finally, they are resilient. We have tried everything to get rid of them and their nest, but they keep rebuilding. We finally had to spray our entire lawn with poison to kill them off. Now there are huge dead yellow jackets all over our yard. Mr. M is out of town and I am NOT about to go picking up the remnants. He can do that tomorrow when he gets home.

5. Last night, the thunder was so loud I jolted myself awake and flung myself from the bed, thus landing on the floor. Awesome. So far, I do not have a bruise.

6. It is not even 10AM and I have already consumed two Einstein’s Brothers bagels and cream cheese. At least the bagels were toasted honey whole wheat and the cream cheese was fat free veggie. That is somewhat healthy, right?

7. We pick up Oliver tomorrow morning!! Woo hoo!!

by Mojito Maven on July 28, 2009

Dear J. Crew,

Thank you for offering sunshine on a cloudy day. Thank you for providing a pick-me-up when I am feeling off. Thank you for being the fix to my sugar craving.  Thank you for everything that you are.

i scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!

by Mojito Maven on July 27, 2009

Side note: Chapter 14 of Somewhere In Between Us has been posted!

While enjoying a lemon drop with SNL and Princess Tartini on Friday, an all too familiar sound infiltrated PT’s home. Apparently the ice cream truck frequents her neighborhood on a regular basis.

jsw_dsc00348

I was two seconds away from grabbing my wallet and running like a banshee out of hell down the street to stop the truck so I could gorge myself an Orange Creamsicles, Fudgsicles, and Firecrackers. I mean, I am an adult. Adults do not go bat shit crazy over a simple melody, right? Wrong. It seems I am either stuck in elementary school or I do in fact go bat shit crazy over the ice cream truck song.

Luckily, rumor has it I am not the only one. PT informed me that her mother also goes nuts for the only melody known to taunt a person into insanity. So much so that when she comes to visit she chases after it to not only buy ice cream for herself, but also for PT’s dog. Awesome.

I swear there must be a twelve step program for people like me because I KNOW I cannot be the only person who reacts like this.

ode to the ultra thin sharpie!

by Mojito Maven on July 23, 2009

sharpie5

I am anal. I am OCD. I am an organization Nazis. I am addicted to Ultra Thin Sharpies. There should be self-help groups for people like me. Oh shit, there ARE groups for people like me. I think I need to start attending meetings.

I own more office and organization items than I do clothes, shoes, and purses combined. The Container Store and Office Depot know me by name. We are like a little family.

While growing up, I never that I would become one of those people. You know the type…someone that gets agitated if something is put in the wrong place. Luckily Mr. Mojito shares in my OCD tendencies. We never would have survived our first month of living together otherwise.

If someone were to look through my planner or work notebook, they would probably see a rainbow of colors. At first glance, the colors make the paper look messy and cluttered, but upon further inspection, the colors would reveal a carefully crafted organization system. Every task, appointment, and note has a specific color. This method works for me.

My life has been forever altered because of the wonderfulness that is the Ultra Thin Sharpie.

Thank you, dear Sharpie that comes in a plethora of colors, for making my anal, organized, OCD life that much better. Oh, and I think you smell good, too.

Puppy update:

Thank you for your advice on our future puppy. Come next Friday, Oliver Pancake will officially become a Mojito! YAY. We inquired about getting both puppies but the breeder said that whichever puppy we did not choose was already spoken for. In a year we will probably get a companion for Oliver.

I had several people ask about his name. Oliver was a name we picked out not the breeder. The name the breeder gave him was Bumper, but he looks like an Oliver to us! Pancake was shamelessly stolen from my dear friend Erin at Blue Eyed Bride. We will call him Oli for short.

ginger jelly bean or oliver pancake?

by Mojito Maven on July 22, 2009

Help! We need to make a decision on our future puppy by tomorrow evening. Here are the two puppies selected for us:

Oliver Pancake…the breeder says he is more reserved and a cuddler.

boy

Ginger Jelly Bean…the breeder says she is more independent and laid back.

girl

GAH I want them both (which I am considering), but Mr. M may divorce me haha.

So, dear readers, what are your experiences with boy and girl dogs???

Help!

P.S. You can thank Mr. Mojito and Erin at Blue-Eyed Bride for their middle names!!

balding?

by Mojito Maven on July 21, 2009

Side note: Do not forget to enter my blogging anniversary giveaway!

I have heard this issue is predominantly found in natural blondes, but I think either the DNA running through my body has taken on a life of its own thus making me a freak of nature or I am prematurely aging because I am losing hair at lightening speeds.

Seriously, with the rate at which I shed hair, I should be completely bald by now. Every night before I hang up my clothes I have to take a lint roller to them just to remove the mass of blonde hair. I get up from my seat at work and there are hundreds of them just lying around. Every where I look I find blonde hairs. It is driving me INSANE!

I am hoping the gods are not laughing at me, and instead, for every hair I lose they allow another one to grow in its place. Otherwise, I will be bald by age 30.

Not cool. AT. ALL.

Anyone else have this issue or am I really a freak of nature?

blogging anniversary giveaway: make yours a mojito

by Mojito Maven on July 20, 2009

Side note: Chapter 13 of Somewhere In Between Us has been posted. Happy reading!

I started this blog almost a year ago as a creative outlet for myself. Over the past year it has become so much more. The friends I have made, both virtually and in real life, have made this whole process worth it. I love you all.

Also, I have to say thank you, dear readers, for listening to my rants, ramblings, and raves about whatever pops into my head. This blog would have died a slow and painful death long ago if it were not for those of you that visit my blog on a daily basis.

So, in light of my one year blogging anniversary, I cannot think of a better way to celebrate than with a round of mojitos for everyone!!

I am giving away a mojito kit to one lucky reader. I actually own this same mojito kit and use it often. All of the items in the kit can be found at Crate & Barrel.

mojito-giveaway

The mojito kit includes:
4 Highball mojito glasses
Cocktail shaker
Muddler
Lime jigger (ummm how cute is the lime??)
Cocktail recipe book

All you have to do enter is leave a comment on this post telling me your favorite flavor of mojito (mine is the berry mojito from La Duni in Dallas), or if you have not had the privilege of trying the mother of all cocktails, what your favorite cocktail is and why (though, you really should order a mojito next time you are out to dinner).

The deadline to enter this giveaway is Friday, July 31st. The winner will be announced Monday, August 3rd.

guac

Can someone please explain to me WHY guacamole is so darn high in calories?

WHY?!?! It is just not fair.

Madness I tell you…madness.

Rant over.

Note: Yes, I realize I just wrote a blog post about guacamole. Whatever. I love it.

rainbow goodness

by Mojito Maven on July 15, 2009

Look what I just picked up on my recent trip to Target:

lf24

lisafrank2

Yep. I am now the proud owner of some new Lisa Frank folders. They were on sale (stop judging).

During my elementary school years, all of my school supplies (folders, binders, calendars, pencils, etc) were all Lisa Frank.

My work desk loves me now with all its rainbow goodness.

i love richard marx

by Mojito Maven on July 14, 2009

I have a deep, intense love for Richard Marx. I own every album and listen to them ALL THE TIME.

Yes, you heard me correctly. The singer/songwriter that was intensely popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s is my favorite artist of all time. Some of his biggest hits include:

“Right Here Waiting” (easily his most popular single to date)
“Should’ve Known Better”
“Endless Summer Nights”
“Hold On to the Nights”

Isn’t he dreamy? (Stop laughing, I love him…plus it was the late 1980s so he is automatically forgiven)

richard_marx

Slightly better? (He is definitely aging…sad)

richardmarx

I guess you could blame my parents. I grew up listening to their music, and while some of my tastes have changed, my love for Richard Marx has never faltered. Every year when concert schedules are posted I keep hoping one day I will see his name on the list. You can GUARANTEE I will be in the front row bawling like a baby because I am, and will always be, his biggest fan.

Today he is a songwriter for popular artists such as Keith Urban, Justin Timberlake, Sister Hazel, and N Sync. He is also married to Cynthia Rhodes, who played Penny Johnson in Dirty Dancing.

For your viewing enjoyment:

I am not alone, right?

I know some of you have major crushes on popular 80s artists and still listen to to their albums today.
