guac

Can someone please explain to me WHY guacamole is so darn high in calories?

WHY?!?! It is just not fair.

Madness I tell you…madness.

Rant over.

Note: Yes, I realize I just wrote a blog post about guacamole. Whatever. I love it.

Well, since I have eaten it for the last 3 days consecutively… I guess this means I need to work out today? On the other hand, I could just lay out in the back yard instead.

Yeah, I think I’ll do that.

Does not make sense. An avocado is a fruit (or vegetable — I forget) therefore it should be healthy. Now, I am hungry want Mexican for lunch.

3 SouthernBelleJm 07.16.09 at 10:52 am

Yum Yum, makes me want some guac, cheese dip, and salsa right now!!!!

4 kate 07.16.09 at 10:56 am @cheesefiend

Take heart! While high in calories, avocado is good fat! No trans or saturated – its in the same category as nuts and fatty fish like salmon. Its actually very good for your skin and hair as well.

My old nutritionist would be so proud!

I was shocked and saddened when I found that out as well. It’s because they have so much fat (healthy) but fat is twice as calorie dense.

Agree with Kate… Just think of the good fat it’s bringing you. So it’s almost like you NEED guacamole right?!?

The health benefits (in my humble opinion) definitely outweigh the calories! It’s hard to get a better fruit or vegetable when it comes to their benefits. Go eat some:-) I just had a turkey and avocado sandwich for lunch!

Who cares about the calories, seriously?! Avocados are some of the best things you can feed your body – their “good” fat does wonders for your heart and your overall nutrition profile. Avocados and nuts are among two of my go-to food items, and are both on the no-no list of dieters who starve their bodies of nutrients and fill it with packaged unpronounceable ingredients that are “low fat” instead.

In other words… EAT UP! And BE HAPPY ABOUT GUAC! :-)

9 The Northerner 07.16.09 at 12:20 pm

MmMmMm guac. I just had it in the ginormous burrito I inhaled. Guess I better go running tonight.

That’s why I am glad to be on a high protien diet instead of counting calories! I try to eat avacado at least a few times a week. It has such great health benefits!

Now the tortilla chips that I use to scoop the gauc into my mouth…they are another story ;)

Serious fan of the guac myself. No worries…

My mom makes the BEST guac ever, seriously, it’s insane. I have started making a “guac” with corn, black beans, red onion, and about 1/4 of the avacado I’d normally use– just add lemon & lime juice and stir it all together. It’s really yummy and saves on the high calories/fat content. We had that with blueberry (I know, sounds weird) margaritas at our annual “girls pool day” and it was FAB.

Have you ever had the 100 calorie pack kind? It’s actually pretty good. They have it at Whole Foods or Target and I’ll have to get back to you on the brand. I’ve also seen slimcados at the grocery store and they’re supposed to be lower in fat. I am craving some mexican now!
P.S. Thanks so much for your help today!

Want to hear a story (of course you do)? It’s about how a little lady lost a bunch on weight on WW, then, it was summer time, and you know what happens in the summer? Avocados a plenty at her house–and homemade guacamole every day. Plus, you know, chips and whatnot to dip in said green goodnes. And then you know what happened? She gained almost all her weight back and wanted to jump off a bridge. But, she didn’t. Instead, she bought more perfect avocados from Central Market and all was well again. Even if her new capris no longer fit. Hmph.

This concludes story time.

I’m with you–shouldn’t avocados be like free calories or something?!?

22 Jill 07.16.09 at 2:07 pm

Well, thanks a lot. Now I’m craving guac! It’s in my top 10 foods, along with bacon and cheese and wine. Yes, wine is a food since it’s made out of grapes. My list, my rules :-)

23 Domestic Goddess 07.16.09 at 2:39 pm

Guac is full of GOOD FAT GOOD FAT..at least this is what I tell myself when this is all I eat for lunch or dinner or both. YUM!

I try to justify the calories by telling myself I’m eatting some of those “good” fats they always talk about. And now I want some guac!

Mmmm. I love it. I just started eating it about a year ago at a restaurant where they make it at the table and now it is my crack. This is actually the second post I’ve read this week about guacamole. I guess it’s everyone else’s crack too.

I often ask myself this same question…but then I pour myself another margarita and delve into another bowl of guac. Mmmm…life is too short to not indulge. ;)
