another year for the great pumpkin!

by Mojito Maven on October 29, 2009

the-great-pumpkin

In light of recent events, I am not exactly in the most spirited of moods so please forgive my less than stellar attitude.

Thankfully my parents are coming into town tonight from Denver to celebrate Halloween and meet little Oliver. (Cross your fingers they can actually get out! It is currently blizzard conditions in Denver so hopefully their flight does not get canceled.)

We plan on having a low key Halloween spent at home with a home-cooked meal, trick-or-treaters, and scary movies.

Seeing as how Snoopy and the Peanuts gang are staples in the Mojito household, we thought it only fitting that we dress up Oliver as Charlie Brown for Halloween complete with CB’s signature t-shirt and a stuffed baseball to chew on! Pictures to come on Monday!

Ring update:

My engagement ring is still MIA. We have literally torn our house apart, called every place I have been in the last week, contacted the police, checked Oliver’s poop, taken Oliver to the vet to get x-rayed, and torn out my hair so I am now bald. We contacted the insurance company and are waiting for them to get in touch with us to start the claim process. Ugh, please pray it goes smoothly. I feel rather naked without my ring.

um, shit?

by Mojito Maven on October 27, 2009

I cannot find my engagement ring. I took it off last night before bed and set it on my nightstand. Fast forward to this morning…POOF the ring is no where to be found.

I have literally torn my bedroom apart looking for it. My wedding band and David Yurman ring were still on the nightstand but no engagement ring.

Did a pixie fairy come steal it during the night?
Did Oliver eat it?
Did it grow little ring legs and run away?

I am going INSANE.

UMMMMMMMMMMMM SHIT! Thank goodness for insurance, BUT COME ON, where is it???????????

ETA: After recounting my steps it appears I did not wear my ring to work yesterday (apparently I thought I put it on out of habit but didn’t actually do so as Mr. M pointed out) nor did I wear it this past Thursday-Sunday (I was sick so I stayed in bed). The last time I remember wearing it was last Wednesday evening at Oliver’s puppy class where I think I may have taken it off and forgot to put it back on.

Did I mention I am an idiot?

story people

by Mojito Maven on October 26, 2009

Side note: Chapter 24 of Somewhere In Between Us has been posted. Happy reading!

It is a dreary, rainy Monday, and I am feeling rather blah even after a relaxing and stress-free weekend.

Sometimes Brian Andreas’s Story People just say it better…

spp00741

“I was waiting for such a long time, she said. I thought you forgot. It’s hard to forget, I said, when there is such an empty space when you are gone.” — Hard to Forget

spp0446

“I saw them standing there pretending to be just friends, when all the time in the world could not pry them apart.” — Just Friends

spp0083

“She left pieces of her life behind her everywhere she went. It’s easier to feel the sunlight without them, she said.” — Leaving Pieces

spp0449

“I read once that the ancient Egyptians had fifty words for sand & the Eskimos had a hundred words for snow. I wish I had a thousand words for love, but all that comes to mind is the way you move against me while you sleep & there are no words for that.” — No Words

The last one is my absolute favorite. I have several of these prints hanging in my laundry room. I cannot explain it, but no matter what kind of day I am having, Story People quotes always make me smile.

Happy Monday!

fifty shades of wrong

by Mojito Maven on October 23, 2009

On occasion I find Robert Pattinson attractive, but this, my friends, is not one of those times. This picture from Interview magazine is about fifty shades of wrong.

robert-pattinson-interview-magazine

Let’s discuss:

Is that black t-shirt with cutoff sleeves underneath a dark gray vest?
And whitey tighties?
How about the untied gray sweatpants?
Not to mention he appears slightly constipated.

I just do not find him attractive in this picture AT ALL. He looks like he fell in a dumpster (though my sister would vehemently disagree).

Could Interview magazine not come up with ANYTHING better to dress Hollywood’s hottest actor in?

I recognize I am in the minority in this and I will probably have hordes of fan girls chasing me with pitchforks, but seriously?!?

chia obama

by Mojito Maven on October 22, 2009

Side note: Chapter 23 of Somewhere In Between Us has been posted! Happy reading!

I do not care about your political orientation. There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for this:

*Apr 07 - 00:05*

A chia pet of Obama’s head?!? REALLY?!? Is there a better way to mark our president’s inauguration than to mush some plant seeds into a terra cotta bust that resembles him? I did not think so.

Staring at one of these in my windowsill would freak me the hell out!

Chia Obama is for sale online, in “Happy” or “Determined” poses, for the amazingly low price of just $19.99 with three seed packs included!

The figurine is also emblazoned with Obama’s campaign slogan, ”Yes We Can,” as well as with the words “liberty,” “opportunity,” “prosperity,” and “hope.”

This is a joke, right?

izze fizzy

izze-lg

I realize I am about eight years behind the curve on this, but I recently discovered IZZE Sparkling Juice when we received a complimentary 4-pack at the grocery store. I see them all the time at Starbucks but never got the urge to try one. I am sure glad I finally did.

As someone who has a deep love for Champagne/Prosecco with a splash of Chambord, this drink is right up my alley. My personal favorite flavors are pomegranate and blackberry.

These little delights remind me of wine coolers from the ‘80s, only with more attractive packaging, more deliciousness, and healthier ingredients.

I have already consumed four bottles in the past 24-hours.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Stop judging.

oliver’s glamour shots

by Mojito Maven on October 19, 2009

Oliver, Mr. Mojito, and I spent this past Sunday morning with the wonderful and talented Nicole Mlakar Livingston walking around the Bishop Arts District taking photos and generally having a kick ass time. (If you are interested in pet photos I HIGHLY recommend Nicole. She is AMAZING!)

Oliver Pancake is one freaking adorable puppy if I do say so myself! {toot, toot}

Now if only we could get him a modeling contract…kidding. Or am I?

Here are some of my favorites:

friday musings

by Mojito Maven on October 16, 2009

1. Oliver spent the week getting ready for his glamour shots. Puppy photos are Sunday! Woot.

2. I went to EVERY Ann Taylor Loft store in the DFW area yesterday looking for a sweater for said puppy photos and NONE of them have it in stock even though it is online and it does NOT say it is an online item only. Grrrrrr.

3. Last night I completed class 1 of 6 in the creative writing program I am in. YESSSSSS!!

4. I am getting my hair cut and highlighted today. While these things are much needed, I am distraught that my hair is no longer naturally platinum blonde. Sigh…

5. Yesterday at Starbucks I saw a woman wearing toe socks (they were pink with yellow polka dots) with cobalt blue peep-toe stilettos. Is this a new trend I missed?

Happy Friday all!

dallas cowboys cheerleaders: making the team 4

by Mojito Maven on October 15, 2009

2009squad

Who needs NFL football when you have the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

Have I mentioned I squeal like a teeny-bopper fan girl every time I watch this show? When I am not turning into the Incredible Hulk because I am so green with envy of these beautiful women with kick ass bodies, Kelli Finglass and Judy Trammell make my heart go pitter-patter.

It is always strange to me when I see people I actually KNOW in real life on this show. Two have even made the team!

The best part is now I do not have to wait to find out if my favorites actually made the team seeing as how this is a photo of the 2009-2010 squad! Woot!

Has anyone ever tried out for a professional cheerleading/dance team? What was the experience like?

chocolate for breakfast?

by Mojito Maven on October 14, 2009

nutella

Has anyone seen the commercial where a mom is serving toast doused in Nutella for breakfast, her children salivating all over the chocolaty goodness while she smiles at them with pure pride and joy?

The mother’s voice over is the icing on the cake:

As a mom, I’m a great believer in Nutella, a delicious hazelnut spread that I use to get my kids to eat healthy foods. I spread a little on all kinds of healthy things, like multi-grain toast. Every jar has wholesome, quality ingredients, like hazelnuts, skim milk, and a hint of delicious cocoa. And Nutella has no artificial colors or preservatives. It’s quick. It’s easy. And at breakfast, I can use all the help I can get.

Does anyone else see a problem with this?

Is it delicious? Hell yes.
Does it make even cardboard edible? Absolutely.
Would pancakes, toast, waffles, and crepes be bland without it? Obviously.
Could I eat it straight from the jar with my finger? Ummmm, what do you think I am doing right now?

I am a self-proclaimed foodie and chocoholic, but even I know that chocolate hazelnut spread similar in consistency and texture to peanut butter is NOT a HEALTHY and WHOLESOME breakfast option.

Over half of the calories in a single serving come from fat (and not the good kind despite the hazelnuts).

FAIL, Nutella. Fail.
